WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Systems Administrator is responsible for managing and supporting the Windows systems and applications used at ASCD+ISTE. This position is also responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software and related infrastructure, along with Azure, Intune, and Mosyle administration. This position ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational requirements and best practices in providing operational support. The System Administrator assists project teams with technical issues during the planning phases and supports the help desk staff in troubleshooting and resolving problems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor and manage ASCD+ISTE Active Directory environment to include purging outdated policies, accounts, OU structures, and will act as primary owner of this environment.
  • Manage authentication and authorization requirements of directory services to create, change, and delete user accounts as directed.
  • Serve as an escalation point for junior systems engineers and IT support staff.
  • Resolves complex problems with minimal supervision.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all implemented systems and processes.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior team members and end-users.
  • Administer and manage Windows and Mac environments using Intune and Mosyle.
  • Design, deploy, and manage scalable, secure, and reliable cloud infrastructure solutions using Microsoft Azure and AWS.
  • Ensure optimal performance, availability, and security of cloud environments.
  • Review access level permissions and built-in groups for effective/secure access and assist with recommendations and reorganization efforts that align with ASCD+ISTE and industry best practices.
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all server hardware resources, systems and key processes.

WHAT WILL MATTER TO US

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certification in Microsoft Azure (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect, Azure Administrator).
  • Relevant AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator).
  • Strong knowledge of Active Directory.

EXPERIENCE

  • Five or more years of relevant experience with Windows, Active Directory, Group Policies and backup systems.
  • A four-year college degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management or similar technical discipline is preferred.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong background in Microsoft Azure and AWS cloud platforms.
  • Proven experience managing Windows and Mac environments using Intune and Mosyle.
  • Extensive experience with system administration, including configuration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
  • Strong understanding of network security principles and best practices.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills

If you live in the DC Metro Area (MD, DC or Northern VA) you are REQUIRED to come into the Arlington, VA office up to two days per week. All attempts will be made to hire an individual in the DC Metro area, but on those occasions where we cannot this position is eligible to be remote.
