Macmillan Invests in Brazilian Edtech Start-ups Veduca and Easyaula

Feb 9, 2013

OLA! Macmillan Digital Education does a little samba dance after investing in two Brazilian edtech startups: Veduca, a video platform that curates content from top universities around the world and provides metatags and Portugese subtitles; and Easyaula, a marketplace for anyone to offer or take classes. (Think Udemy in Portugese.)

EdSurge learned that Veduca got about $750K (R$ 1,5 milhão) from its investors which included Macmillian, Mountain do Brasil, and 500 Startups. More details here (in Portugese) and here (in English).

For clarification, Macmillan Digital Education is separate from Macmillan New Ventures, which was formed in July 2012 to acquire education startups. Macmillan's parent company, Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck, reorganized the publisher last summer into three divisions: Global Trade, Global Science and Education, and Holtzbrink Media. Macmillan New Ventures, along with Macmillan Digital Education and Digital Science are separate divisions under the The Global Science & Education division, managed by Annette Thomas.
