OLD SCHOOL, NEW SCHOOL: All the bad buzz about high tuitions and higher unemployment rates are putting the spotlight back on vocational education. The NYTimes takes a look at Enstitute, which offers a two-year program that places students in apprenticeships at tech startups, digital media companies, and social impact organizations, along with a "semiformal curriculum" that covers basics like English and history. Its all about "challeng[ing] the conventional wisdom that top professional jobs always require a bachelor's degree." The company website gives a nod to Germany, where "apprenticeship programs...are credited for Germany having the lowest youth unemployment in the world." At $1,500 a year, with a stipend for room and board in Manhattan, it doesn't sound like a bad deal.
