CODE OF ETHICS FOR CODING CLASSES: A blog post on Usenix this past week outlined a high school mother's plea for less sexism in coding classes after her daughter experienced bullying (including online harassment in a Linux Pro Magazine blog post) while enrolled in a predominately-male programming class. After citing her daughter's concerns, the writer goes onto outline several suggestions for how to prevent issues like this, including outlining and enforcing an anti-harassment policy. The blog post itself is fascinating, but the comments that Usenix readers left in response appear divided in their agreement with the author's point, including one reader who called the writer a "know it all" parent. It looks like cyber-bullying isn't just an adolescent issue.
