RESTART: Back in October 2013, one overheated charger for Amplify's education tablet melted the plastic casing--and set alarm bells throughout Guilford County Schools. The district, one of the first to pilot the device, suspended its use, and fingerpointing between the company and manufacturer ensued. According to Politico "it was an embarrassing glitch" but "a lengthy investigation by an independent lab has found no safety issues with the chargers." Also:
Most customers--five districts in three states--have resumed using the tablets. Guilford County is going to wait until this summer, when Amplify will provide its 24 middle schools with second generation tablets, meant to be more durable.
