Three States Had No Girls Take AP CS Exam

Jan 8, 2014

DEARTH OF DIVERSITY: Don’t let December’s Code.org craze fool you into thinking that everyone's into computer science these days. Georgia Tech’s Barbara Ericson recently combed through data on the AP Computer Science 2013 results and arrived at some alarming conclusions. No females took the exam in Mississippi, Montana, and Wyoming. And just as startling: 11 states had no black students engage in the exam. For states that had girls take the exam, the percentage of female test takers ranged from 3.88% in Utah to 29% in Tennessee. Check out the raw data about who took the exam in this spreadsheet.
