READING 2.0: Do you find yourself taking online reading less seriously than print? Over at The New Yorker, Maria Konnikova offers some ideas on “Being a Better Online Reader.” She suggests that a digital format doesn’t necessarily lead to less--but rather different--comprehension. According to Konnikova, it’s easier to learn immersive, deep reading skills with a physical book, as it requires less constant discipline than reading amidst all the clickable choices of the internet. But digital options allow speed that can be beneficial for skimming texts, as well as for editing. This has ramifications for the 21st century classroom: Should educators should use both print and digital medium? How should each be used?
