AUDITORY AUGMENTATION: Looks like EdSurge isn’t the only company looking to build your listening skills.
On March 25, Bethesda, MD-based Tales2Go raised $2.4 million in a Series A round led by group of private investors, with NewSchools Venture Fund and the Maryland Venture Fund participating. The “Netflix for children’s audio books” offers over 3,000 titles, both fiction and nonfiction, for listeners ages 5-15, aiming to aid vocabulary acquisition and retention for those learning how to read. By using the Accelerated Reader algorithm from Renaissance Learning, teachers and parents can find appropriate listening materials based on a student’s literacy ability.
After a 30-day free trial, parents and teachers can buy a 3-month ($29.99) or annual ($99.99) subscription, or schools can contact Tales2Go for bulk pricing. The platform, available in the App Store, Google Play, and on browsers, is used in hundreds of schools across the country, including those in the Los Angeles Unified School District, Broward County Schools, Berkeley Unified School District, and Heartland Area Education Agency.
