BETA PLACESPOTTING is a challenging yet engaging tool for learning and discovering geographical locations. Using two Google Maps' Satellite views, placeSpotting challenges users to identify unknown zoomed-in map locations. One map view is a snapshot of the mystery location -- roads, rooftops, and bodies of water are easily recognizable but unnamed. The other map view is provided for would-be placeSpotters to find the same location (at the appropriate level of zoom). There are four clues for each location and a handy search function on the interactive map, but finding locations can be quite challenging. (Canadian readers will be happy to know that EdSurge now has a firm geographical understanding of Victoria, Ontario and the Haro Strait.) Oh yeah, you can create your own placeSpotting quizzes, as well!
