RACE TO THE BOTTOM: What if the true purpose of MOOCs was to preserve brick-and-mortar colleges and universities? It's an interesting proposition incubating under economist and South African academician, Waldo Krugell. We discarded Econ101 principles with the 2008 recession, so no sweeping analysis here but its a lesson in price discrimination. Instead of disqualifying half of the market, give the bare minimum to the needy online, offer a certification or two to the folks in the middle, and really dig in to provide a premium four-walled experience for those who can afford it. We're keeping an eye on Krugell who promises a more thoughtful post in the future.
