WRITING RIGHT: Teachers largely agree that "digital tools [have] tangible, beneficial impacts on student writing," but many say at the same time that they make students more likely "to take shortcuts and not put effort into their writing." So finds a recent Pew survey of over 2,600 Advanced Placement and National Writing Project teachers on how technology has impacted the quality of student writing. The main problem areas: informal language style "creeping" into formal writing (we're, like, totally guilty of this), and the lack of a firm understanding of copyrights, references and fair use. Overall, though, half of these writing teachers say technology makes their job a little easier.
