GOLDIEBLOX GIRL POWER: The lack of women in STEM issue is widely known. This week, Tom Vander Ark ratches up the alarm by sharing data such as the fact that only 13% of engineers are female (compared to 53% in the social sciences). In order to combat this, STEM-focused Goldieblox has endeavored to produce engineering toys for girls, and recently put out a stereotype-crushing promo video. Though video has gone high-and-low viral (gracing publications from The New York Times to Buzzfeed), the question continues to linger: Will current education reform support an influx of women into STEM careers?
