DISTRICT ROLL-CALL: Southern districts stand out as the latest mavericks of 1:1 initiatives. First up, the Houston Independent School District began handing out 18,000 (woah!) laptops as the formal start to its 1:1 high school PowerUp initiative. A few states over, Miami-Dade is restarting a $63-million digital device rollout after pausing for two months out of “caution.” The goal? Deploy a whopping 100,000 devices by August 2015.
