SCORE ONE FOR THE PEOPLE: The University of the People, a non-profit, tuition-free online university headquartered in Pasadena, CA, announced that it has received accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council. This move, says InsideHigherEd, could be a sign that accreditation agencies can play ball with alternative online higher education providers--which wasn't the case last August when Ivy Bridge College ran into trouble. Founded in 2009, UoPeople is about to graduate its first class of seven--which includes students from Syria and Jordan--and currently has 700 students enrolled.
