SMOOTH SAILING: By some estimates, colleges and universities will spend between $20 and $25 billion on technology and services this school year. But how can school decision-makers figure out how to shell out the big bucks and find the right technologies for their specific institutional needs?
Eduventures offers a map of the higher education marketplace. Featuring over 50 categories and hundreds of companies providing services to post-secondary institutions, it aims to provide a tool for navigating the sea of higher ed technologies (although using this map may require a captain with serious navigating experience--we challenge you to find Waldo in there somewhere, tablet and textbook in hand).
Eduventures also offers recommendations for how decision-makers can employ technology effectively in higher education, centered around establishing clear missions and guidelines from the beginning of the purchasing process. It plans to update the map as new technologies emerge and publish a report with further insights this fall.
