NEXTLESSON: San Francisco, CA-based NextLesson has raised $2.9 million in seed funding in the form of a convertible note. According to the press release, the company plans to use the money to expand its district sales operations, develop its product and expand curriculum coverage.
NextLesson offers over 8,000 K-12 lesson plans, worksheets and projects in math, ELA, science and social studies. Lessons focus on using skills in real-world situations and aligned to Common Core or state standards. NextLesson recently unveiled its InterestID feature, designed to help teachers discover lessons tied to students’ interest.
NextLesson secured the funding from a variety of well-known Silicon Valley entrepreneurs. Participants included Marc Benioff (Salesforce), Michael Birch (Bebo), Drew Houston (Dropbox),Thomas Layton (Upwork), Marissa Mayer (Yahoo!), Jeremy Stoppelman (Yelp) and Nirav Tolia (Nextdoor).
