ACT, INC., creator of the ACT college readiness assessment, has acquired Los Gatos, CA-based OpenEd, a free search and recommendation engine for open education resources. The OpenEd team will remain intact and join Pacific Metrics, a subsidiary company (acquired by ACT in 2014), in the newly formed ACT Assessment Technologies group, based in California. The group will be led by chief executive officer, Rich Patz, who was previously chief measurement officer for ACT. Founded in 2012 by Adam Blum, OpenEd raised $2 million at a $10 million valuation back in 2014. For the time being, the OpenEd.com website will remain up and running, with free resources remaining available free of charge.
