STUDENT VOICE IN HIGHER ED: The EdSurge HigherEd team is excited to announce a call for students to join our new, experimental Medium publication, “EdSurge Independent.” After noticing a conspicuous absence of avenues for student voices in the higher education conversation, we decided to make one, run and managed by our own student editorial intern. We’re asking who’s missing from the conversation and why? How might we amplify powerful student narratives?
We’re creating this publication in Medium because want a stylistically flexible space for a broad range of minimally edited student stories and critical reflection on higher education. Our goal is to aggregate and amplify a multitude of student voices in the style, form and tone of their choice. We want to share student essays, photographs, mini-documentaries, comics, audio-journals and more. If you are not a student, please send this to one or two you know.
If you are a student, there are two ways to participate (visit our first post to see more information):
- Submit independent contributions.
- Join our part-time digital summer cohort. We’ll host weekly virtual meetups for the cohort over the course of the summer with the expectation of one Medium post every two weeks.
Since we’re working within Medium, students will always maintain ownership over their content, always able to edit or delete their submitted work. The publication will always direct readers to the student’s self-determined profile. And since our student editorial intern will act as editor and manager, EdSurge Independent will be truly be student run, owned and guided. It will be independent.
