New Funding Challenge Aims to Support Special Education Edtech Tools

Feb 16, 2017

SPED CHALLENGE: NewSchools Venture Fund just announced its next edtech competition, this time for entrepreneurs with a particular focus on supporting PreK-12 special education. The opportunity, which will be open to submissions from February 16 through March 12, will disburse $1.5 million to innovative strategies and tools that aim to support students with disabilities and their teachers. Recipients will receive between $50,000 to $150,000 in funding, along with management assistance and collaboration opportunities with other organizations.

“It seems intuitive that students with disabilities might need significant academic support, but we talked with experts and gained a much better understanding of the higher incidence of adverse outcomes for these students,” Tonika Cheek Clayton, managing partner at NewSchools Venture Fund, said in a prepared statement. “More importantly, we learned how edtech tools could help.”
