VOXY: Although the English Language Learning industry seems to be off the radar of many US-based entrepreneurs, each year billions of dollars pour into the global ELL sector. One company that appears to be cornering the domestic market is Voxy, an English instruction company based out of New York. They’ve just secured $12 million in equity financing through a funding round led by SJF Ventures.
Voxy touts a unique model for bringing digital English language instruction to companies, education institutions, and governments on a global scale. They use live video instruction in conjunction with a career, proficiency and interest-aligned curriculum to teach users English.
The company, which currently has bases in New York City and Brazil, hopes to expand their presence in both Latin America and Asia. “This latest round of funding will allow us to work with more learners in historically underserved regions in support of their economic advancement, replicating our success in Brazil,” Voxy CEO Paul Gollash said in a prepared statement.
For this Series B2 funding round, SJF Ventures was joined by Inherent Group, Rethink Education, Contour Venture Partners, Weld North and GSV Acceleration.
