Arizona State University Offers Students 15 Credits for ‘Semester in Silicon Valley’

Apr 4, 2017

SEMESTER IN SV: Some Arizona State University students will study abroad for a semester this year. Others will choose a destination that’s a bit closer: Silicon Valley. ASU announced it will be partnering with Draper University, a self-described “boarding school for entrepreneurs” started by venture capitalist Tim Draper, to host the university’s Semester in Silicon Valley program. The partnership program will offer 15 ASU credits for up to 80 ASU students, as well as a “certificate of entrepreneurship for students who start their own companies,” according to the press announcement. Students will take five ASU courses through which they earn credits, along with “Survival Training” from a former Navy SEAL.

Based in San Mateo, Calif., Draper University offers students access to funding and mentorship opportunities around the Silicon Valley. There’s a demo day at the end of the semester where startups have raised more than $200,000.
