UNBOUND CONCEPTS, a Baltimore-based startup that tags reading content with metadata to make them easier to find, has been acquired by Certica Solutions. Unbound Concepts’ flagship tool, Artifact, offers a taxonomy that is used to “tag” the reading level, literary devices and other characteristics of reading materials.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed in the press release. Founded in 2011, Unbound Concepts had raised around $1 million in debt and venture funding, according to Crunchbase. The team will be joining its new owner.
Certica offers a suite of data integration services that help K-12 schools and vendors manage and share share data from their products. One of its tools, Academic Benchmarks, has categorized 3.9 million learning standards and terms that are used by nearly 200 education organizations.
