LIGHTNEER, a Finnish developer of educational games, is adding $3.8 million to its seed round, which bumps its funding total to $7.8 million. New investors to this deal include Reach Capital and BrightEyeVC, a Paris-based firm.
Led by former developers from Rovio (developer of the Angry Birds franchise), Lightneer currently has one game, Big Bang Legends, that aims to teach players concepts from physics and chemistry. The game introduces each element of the periodic table as a cute, illustrated creature. “Kids can learn hundreds of Pokémons, and all of their features by heart,” says Lauri Järvilehto, CEO of LIghtneer in a prepared statement. “How hard can 118 atom-heroes be to learn?” (We shall see!) The game gas been quietly launched in Finland, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia, and will be globally available in January 2018.
