SOCRATIVE’S NEW HOME: Socrative, a provider of online formative assessment tools, has been acquired by Showbie, a Canadian company behind a classroom workflow app. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Founded in 2010, Socrative offers tools that allow teachers to deliver quizzes and exit tickets to measure students’ understanding of class materials. The company claims usage by 3.7 million teachers across the world. Socrative was previously acquired by MasteryConnect for $5 million in 2014.
According to a FAQ on Socrative’s website, Showbie plans on keeping Socrative as a separate standalone app, and will honor users who are currently on the paid subscription plan. Based in Edmonton, Showbie’s platform has features for managing digital assignments, lesson plans and teacher-student communication. It claims 3 million users in 140 countries.
