THE SOCIAL CODE: SoloLearn, a San Francisco-based startup behind a coding education and community platform, has raised $5.6 million in a Series A round led by Naspers Ventures. Existing backer Learn Capital also participated in the funding.
The company traces its roots to Armenia, where its co-founders launched the app in 2014 to introduce local learners to coding skills. The platform currently offers courses for 13 programming languages, and has forums where users can share projects and coding challenges with one another. These features are available for free; a subscription will remove ads and offer tools that let users set and track learning goals.
According to the press release, the company claims one million monthly active users.
