SINK OR SWIM: Blue Canoe Learning, a Seattle-based developer of a mobile app that teaches English as a second language, has received a $500,000 convertible note from Qualcomm Ventures, the venture arm of the San Diego-based, publicly traded global chipmaker. The company got the investment as a prize for winning Qualcomm’s first Female Founders Summit and pitch competition last Wednesday.
Founded in 2016, Blue Canoe claims it has individual and corporate users in 46 countries. Its app offers games and activities that leverage AI and speech recognition technology to help users practice their pronunciation.
