ACT EARLY: The ACT (yup, the folks who developed the ACT college-entrance exam) is reportedly developing the "next generation of assessments" for college readiness and career skills. Initial confusion over how early these assessments begin led some to cry foul over the possibility of kindergarteners and 5-year olds taking it. But the ACT folks assure us that the tests are currently designed to begin at the third grade. (A slight sigh of relief?) Still, concerns linger over whether these early results send the wrong message to students or could be misused by teachers and parents to pigeonhole their kids' career options.
