SOME GIFTS KEEP ON GIVING: Ken Libby, graduate student at the University of Colorado at Boulder, has plumbed public data on Gates Foundation's education grants awarded from 2008 to 2010 and sorted it into twenty categories. Noteworthy trend: grants for private schools and "small schools" (in terms of actual $) dropped by over 90% during that period. The biggest increase in grant allocation went to Common Core initiatives, which rose 2054% (from $600k in 2008 to over $13 million in 2010). Note to developers: if your curriculum-related program doesn't mention Common Core, it probably should.
