MAKING THE GRADE: For the past year, San Francisco's Mission Dolores Catholic school has been trying a blended learning approach in something it calls the Phaedrus Initiative. The results, say Matt Bowman, an EdSurge cofounder who has been managing the effort, look very promising: "With the blended structure, we've increased class size by a third, cut per pupil operating costs by several thousand dollars, and saw test scores rise steeply: on average, students went from the 43rd to the 49th percentile in reading, and in math, they skyrocketed from the 43rd to the 59th percentile." Here's a video overview of the Phaedrus Initiative, which supporters Seton Education Partners hope to expand.
