Rebecca Garcia: Why I Teach Kids to Code

Sep 5, 2012

YOU DIDN'T BUILD THAT?: Here's a feel-good post, titled "Why I Teach Kid to Code," from Ms. Rebecca Garcia, co-founder of CoderDojo NYC and CTO at Greatist. CoderDojo is a "movement of free coding clubs for young people" originally founded by Mr. James Whelton of Ireland. Ms. Garcia's push for an NYC branch sprung out of her experiences at an iD Tech Camp and her work at DoSomething.org. We're reminded of Mayor Corey Booker's Stanford commencement speech on being a "conspirator of love." Kudos to Ms. Garcia for recognizing a pivotal moment in her own upbringing and reaching back to create those same moments for today's youth..
