SMILE LIKE YOU MEAN IT: Marvell has announced that its SMILE Plug (which we first spotted back in January) will be publicly available sometime in October. A quick reminder: the SMILE Plug provides a handy server that creates a "micro-cloud within a classroom," capable of providing a local Wi-Fi network for up to 60 students to connect to one another via phones, tablets, or PCs--in the absence of an Internet connection. See the full specs here. The press release also shares that beta versions are being piloted in over 20 countries for everything from elementary-grade classrooms to graduate programs. The device was developed in conjunction with the Stanford Mobile Inquiry-based Learning Environment. Endgaget reports that it will cost around $30.
