STEMasters: The Obama Administration has just announced a new initiative to recognize and rewards exceptional K-12 teachers in STEM subjects. From the press release: "The STEM Master Teacher Corps will begin with 50 exceptional STEM teachers established in 50 sites and will be expanded over 4 years to reach 10,000 Master Teachers." In exchange for providing leadership and expertise to support and participate in "a networked community of outstanding public school teachers of STEM subjects," corp members will receive an annual $20K stipend on top of their current salary.
The administration has dedicated $1B in the 2013 budget for the Master Teacher Corp and hopes to secure multi-year commitments from corp members as it looks to prepare 100K qualified STEM teachers over the next decade. Follow @WHLive and @whitehouseostp and review #whchat for more details.
