Voxy: A language program that uses real-life content, content and conversations to teach language skills scored a $2.8 million series A round from Seavest Inc., Contour Ventures, several angel investors and existing investor, ff Asset Management. Voxy is working on a product launch in Brazil. It launched its first mobile product in January 2011 and has 300,000 English-language users for its free and premium products. Here's an account by Diana Rhoten (then with StartL) of Voxy's homegrown beginnings. Seavest may be one of the savviest ed-investors around: other investments include: SchoolNet and Wireless Generation, both of which have enjoyed generous liquidity events.
