Christopher Sandoval is a performing arts teacher and the Specials Department Lead at KIPP Comienza Community Prep in Los Angeles. Since he was nine years old, Sandoval has explored his cultural and artistic roots through Mexican folk arts. With the support of his mother, his passion for education has become seeing his BIPOC students grow into active and proud leaders inside and outside their school community.
After his graduate studies at the California State University, Fullerton, Sandoval became a Teach for America corps member and served in McAllen, Texas and Redwood City, California with KIPP Bay Area Schools. He has taught Mexican folk dance and Latin rhythms for 15 years across Texas and the American West, and holds the utmost gratitude for the amazing mentors that help him bridge this passion into his work as a school teacher, leading him to receive the Teacher of the Year Award for KIPP SoCal Schools in 2022.
