University of Texas joins edX with aim of offering credits

Oct 16, 2012

HOOK' EM MOOCS: The University of Texas announced on Monday its partnership with edX, and will reportedly invest $5 million in edX and another $5 million for supporting online course design. Inside Higher Ed surmises that UT will be pushing aggressively on offering academic credit through edX, even for courses offered by other partners. (HarvardX, as its branded, just began its first two classes--computer science and public health research--with about 100,000 students signed up.) Started by powerhouses MIT and Harvard (and joined by UC Berkeley this summer), edX is part of the infectious MOOC craze that includes Udacity and Coursera, and now reportedly has its eyes set on community colleges.
