OKPANDA: $1.6 million to New York City-based OKpanda in a seed round led by Resolute Ventures, followed by East Ventures, Beenos, Innovation Endeavors, Kapor Capital, 500 Startups and angels. Launched in 2012, the company offers apps that help English language learners practice by speaking with native speakers. TechCrunch reports the app is a hit in Japan, with over 600,000 app installs since December 2013. OKpanda is available for a monthly subscription between $30 and $100.
