Byju Raises $50 Million in Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative’s First Asian Investment

BYJU, an Indian startup that offers online educational videos, games and courses specific to subjects and exams, has raised $50 million in a round led by the Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI). Other participants include previous investors Sequoia Capital, Sofina, Lightspeed and Times Internet. This funding comes just six months after Byju raised $75 million in a Series C round. Founded in 2011, Byju boasts more than 5.5 million downloads and 250,000 paying subscribers for its app, launched last year. Vivian Wu, managing director of CZI, will join the company’s board of directors. More details in the press release.
